Four Victims Wounded at Howe Park - Unauthorized Gathering Turns Violent





On the evening of Saturday April 18, an unlawful gathering of several hundred people at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento became the scene of a shooting when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots rang out as deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were in the midst of clearing the crowd.

What Happened

Shortly after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County law enforcement received calls involving persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at Howe Community Park in Sacramento. A follow-up call described a potential physical confrontation and individuals running from the park.

Aerial units was deployed and surveyed the area from above but was unable to locate any physical confrontation.

At the same time, a large crowd had come together at Howe Community Park for what law enforcement classified as an unauthorized gathering. Law enforcement personnel surrounded the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes announcing over loudspeakers for people to leave via loudspeaker announcements.

While law enforcement cleared the gathering, upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the area — causing hundreds to flee in all directions at once.

Those Injured

Four victims — three men and one woman, ranging in age through their 20s — were transported to area hospitals. Two were classified with immediate injuries, one was classified with moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries. All four were listed as stable. The Crime Scene

The shooting was centered on the Cottage Way side side of the park close to the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block. The Home Depot was locked down for a period of time. Arrests and Detentions

Via website scanner radio traffic, it was reported that a vehicle of interest — described as a Kia vehicle — was intercepted in Solano County with four suspects detained. SCSO deputies were en route to collect the suspects and return them to Sacramento County for questioning. Video evidence confirmed two gunmen were present.
